The book contains Juráček's diary notebooks no.12–22 from the period between 1956 and 1959, when, after being expelled from the Faculty of Philology, he finally got a job at Vesnické noviny in Nymburk and was then accepted to study dramaturgy and screenwriting at FAMU. There he met his classmates, who later created works of the so-called "new wave" of Czech film. Juráček only used the diary to escape from the duties imposed on him by school and work, but he was convinced that his diary was a piece of literature. And so "only" the diary is, in the end, his sole consistent and continuous act. This was apparently his hidden counter-pull against the traps of life, the blessed juice and the hated deviation from life reality, pride and bitter stigma ”(J. Cieslar, 2002). For the first time, the present edition summarizes all of Juráček's diary work as a whole - in four bulky volumes. The first volume contains texts written from 1948 to 1956 (was published by Torst in May 2017). Marie Kratochvílová prepared the edition of author´s manuscripts for publication, provided the publication and the volume with a name index and wrote an editorial note.
