Havel Forever Oldřich Škácha

Oldřich Škácha (1941) photographed Václav Havel not only during his time as president (as did many others) but also from the start of the 1970s, in emerging dissent circles, and later also in the period when he turned from a president into “regular citizen Havel”. Škácha was never an official Prague Castle photographer, meaning that in his pictures we see Václav Havel not only at work but also in periods of rest or during numerous private meetings with friends in the arts or politicians. More than 60 black and white photographs provide an insight into Havel’s world – in which for a full 40 years Škácha belonged in a very inconspicuous manner, hidden behind the lens of his Leica but for all that more present, at close quarters, and with the emotion that will forever be particular to our generation…
