Two completely different worlds meet at one table in Audience - shy and taciturn intelectual meets with ill-mannered and boorish brewery master, to fight the methods of the secret police together, a fight that neither of them can win. Vaněk is trying to convince his surroundings by saying "I am not sad" while he rolls heavy barrels of beer, is being snooped around by the police and is forced to drink hectoliters of beer he does not even like...

Also Vernissage is a duel between various perceptions of life. Married couple Michal and Věra invite their old friend Vaněk to show him their new, snobbishly adjusted apartment, stuffed with antique furniture and modern kitchen conveniences. Is their false paradise making them happy in the way that they are trying to demonstrate to their friend, blacklisted writer and brewery labourer?

Except for its handy format, this edition of Vaclav Havel Library also stands out by its merit - complementary texts, that draw historical, cultural and personal links of the plays nearer and bring clear story of the author´s life, his exclusive biography and other helpful information about the plays, the author or the period.
