It is not an ordinary diary, but a mature literary work, a unique chronicle of its time. So far, only a part of Juráček's diary covering the 1960s has been published. It has already shown that this is an extraordinary work of value, not just documentary. Pavel Juráček wanted to be and was above all a writer. He wrote short stories, film short stories or screenplays and this diary is a work depicting life in Czechoslovakia over the course of thirty years, and subsequently in exile in the Federal Republic of Germany. Juráček had a dramatic and narrative talent, he was a master of description, characterization and dialogue. He wrote his diary by hand in 33 bound A5 notebooks. For the first time, the present edition summarizes the whole of Juráček's diary work as a whole - in four bulky volumes. The first volume contains texts written from 1948 to 1956. Marie Kratochvílová prepared the edition of author´s manuscripts for publication, provided the publication and the volume with a name index and wrote an editorial note.
